Our departments
Six departments make up the business. Each page shows the purpose, the people, the measures that matter and the systems the team works in.
Overhead Distribution
Constructs and maintains 22 kilovolt and low voltage overhead networks and public lighting for the distribution client, replacing poles and crossarms, installing services, maintaining energised apparatus with live line techniques and running the asset inspection and vegetation programs.
Underground Cables
Lays, joints, terminates, tests and repairs low and high voltage underground cables in urban networks and new subdivisions, locates and repairs cable faults, and maintains underground public lighting and pillars for the distribution client.
Transmission Lines
Inspects and maintains 66 to 220 kilovolt transmission lines, towers and hardware for the transmission client, strings conductors, replaces insulators and fittings, and maintains a tower climbing and rescue capability for live and de-energised work.
Substations and Protection
Inspects, maintains and tests zone and terminal substation plant, including circuit breakers, transformers, direct current systems and protection relays, conducts thermovision surveys and performs substation switching to schedules issued by the operations centre.
Rail Traction
Maintains the 1,500 volt direct current overhead wiring system, traction bonds and section insulators on the metropolitan rail network during night possessions, performs traction switching to schedule and tests and verifies traction installations for the rail client.
Network Operations, Safety and Training
Runs the network operations centre that issues access authorities, develops and directs switching programs and monitors supervisory control, and owns the safety management system, incident investigation, authorisations, training and the storm response plan for the whole business.
